Why do I look forward to every Wednesday? Why is every Wednesday the highlight of my week?

PROJECT RUNWAY!
I swear, I am so obsessed with this season. (And I have a creepy, obsessional dream of having Tim Gunn as my gay husband. Don't tell anyone. But really, isn't his affectionate maternal love for the designers sooooo adorable? I can't stand it anymore.)
Okay, so first of all: UGH!
The emotions are getting intense. The stress is piling up. It's getting down to the wire.
And then another "twist" (if you would call it that, starting to get a little predictable...) comes up. The designers have to cough up a bridesmaid dress and boy did it get interesting.
At the judging panel Michael Kors criticizes the "I don't watch the runways" Kenley and her wedding dress, saying it looks like an Alexander McQueen dress. I'll let you decide for yourself:

Karlie Kloss Death Stare

Anyone else notice Karlie Kloss's "death stare"? Personally, I love it.People love to bitch about Karlie (or any model in general) such as Tyra Bank's infamous imitation of hers (I guess Karlie wasn't "smiling with her eyes" enough... sarcasm...), but her "death stare" has definitely set her apart from the pack. At only 15 years old, she is already such a success. Certainly soaring above any of Tyra's budding "models" (cough cough) she raised herself... Guess Tyra is too commercial for her own good to understand what a high fashion model truly is?

Her walk is a little strange (some debate that it is one of the worst walks), but if anyone knows anything about fashion it definitely sets her apart. And in a good way. As Tyra Banks has said herself, every model needs her own "signature walk", right? (More sarcasm...) I quite love it.
Recently, I have copied Karlie's "fuck off" glare myself but only during appropriate situational occasions of course.
I swear, it's perfect for scaring away perverted old men or the occasional cat calling man when walking down the street!
Gotta love the death stare.

Fashion Turned Political

It is rare that runway designers get political, but boy did things change recently.

Obama support has been making waves since Nicole Farhi accented her dresses with Obama '08 pins in her show in London S/S '09. Since, the Rodarte sisters showed a dress that was both an homage to Rykiel and pro-Obama during the 40th Anniversary Rykiel show, followed by Stella McCartney who had program notes that included "P.S. V.O.T.E. Obama!!" Jean Charles de Castelbajac's S/S '09 collection featured a yellow, black, and gray sequin dress with Obama's face posed on the front, including the words "I have a dream today" printed on the back. The dress was also accompanied with matching black and yellow gloves reading "Yes" and "No". Sonia Rykiel also showed an Obama knit dress (pictured above) this S/S '09. You can also sport some Obama undies, designed by designer Andrew Christian. He has pledged to donate $1 to the Obama campaign for every $29 boxer short he sells. They are available in navy blue, royal blue, green, and red.
The man has also inspired many designers such as Dontella and more. He even has inspired various fashion editorials. Yves Saint Laurent's collection this S/S '09, however, supported Palin with a variation of her signature beehive-with-bangs hairdo.
The Barack Obama campaign has even coordinated some 20 or so designers who are creating official merchandise for the candidate's Web site. The participating designers include Issac Mizrahi, Tracy Reese, Charles Nolan, Diane Von Furstenburg, Beyonce, Russell Simmons, Michael Bastian, and Vera Wang. It is the first time, as far as Seventh Avenue long-timers can recall, that a quorum of the fashion industry has organized its financial resources and creative energy around a single presidential candidate. The mix will be available online next month.
The industry has also rallied around Michelle Obama, when Vogue Editor Anna Wintour, Calvin Klein, and Vogue Editor at Large Andre Leon Talley hosted a $1,000-a-person cocktail reception and a $10,000-a-plate dinner in honor of the potential first lady. The event reportedly brought in close to $1 million.

An Ode to Karl

Karl: I love you.

Karl Lagerfeld has pretty much become the biggest, most recognized, fashion icon of the 21rst century.
T-shirts have been sold with his cartoon-esque face graced upon it (previously exclusively sold at Urban Outfitters), a bag has been designed by him with his face printed onto it (Karl Lagerfeld S/S '09), he has inspired a 7,500-square-foot structure (www.chanel-mobileart.com), he has his own teddy bear (previously exclusively sold at Neiman Marcus at a whooping $1,500), he has been featured in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV (Karl lovers would buy the game just for that!), and more.
All this commotion even has made Karl himself sick of himself...

That said:
Thou shall worship Karl.

I Love the 80's! (Not really) Part deux!

Aren't you excited for a continuation of my 80's trends?

My trend reports are almost coming to an end. You're shedding a tear, right?
Anyways, jumpsuits. I'm sure you've noticed them:Because they were EVERYWHERE S/S '09.
So some of them aren't screaming 80's, actually I would say some of them are more of a "modern" jumpsuit. Every trend that was done before is almost always brought back with a more modern (or "to date") feel.
I think rompers can be ADORABLE (sort of a lolita chic kind of feel) but jumpsuits sort of remind me of pajamas or long johns. Oh, they also remind me of that harem pant style trend for S/S. (which is also another 80's trend for S/S '09, I am just going to reference by word though, not by pictures this time. Sorry!) They are awfully functional however, we all can tell.
Thing is, you have to have a pretty rockin' body to pull off a jumpsuit. The typical model pulls it off easily: tall and thin.
If you are interested in wearing a jumpsuit but don't know where to start styling it or what to wear WITH it, here are some cute girls who I thought pulled the jumpsuit off well:I think the key with the jumpsuit is to make sure you don't look like you're stuck in the 80's. Especially if you're older. Do it with a modern flare, or paired with classic, more contemporary modern, or timeless pieces or accessories. Keep the colors neutral or dark, only go with neon or bright colors if you have darker accessories or darker layers on top.
Another 80's-esque trend out there was dresses longer in the back, and shorter in the front. Here are just a few:
Maison Martin Marglela did a more toned-down, modern touch on this trend while Balmain went all out 80's prom (with a slightly more modern feel) with the ruffles.

I Love the 80's! (Not really)

Can anyone guess why I love the 80's (not really) for S/S 09?

Shoulder pads of course!
(Caution: Skip ahead if you have a great hate for shoulder pads. I know how you feel.)I would say the greatest offender of the shoulder pad trend would be Balmain (strong, strong, strong!) and Proenza (Balenciaga, much?). Mizrahi comes pretty darn close because his whole collection for S/S just seethes the 80's.
Let's face it though, isn't this 80's trend pretty predictable? Fashion often reflects the times, for F/W we saw a lot of hippie/bohemian chic, and now the 80's? These trends are an obvious reflection of the economy and the times.
Anyways, onwards!
Body-con, bondage-esque dresses also seem to be pretty popular for S/S 09.Rodarte gives a more softer and feminine touch to the body binding trend.
A somewhat similar trend on the S/S '09 runways are various outlines:Personally, I think it looks great with suits!

Metallica

Get ready for a trend image dump!

As you may or may not have noticed, there is tons of metallics, sequins, sheen, and general glitter for Spring '09.
Love it or hate it, it's back!
To get the look, Topshop has some all-over sequin leggings in midnight blue, gunmetal, and black. Go take a look!

Sherbet!

As you have probably already noticed, I have a penchant for ogling at trends when I find the time. It becomes one of my main fashion hobbies come every new season. Especially with the times of the economy to date, it makes things even more intriguing! However, understand that I don't always follow trends to buy the "It" thing or "the now" color. That's not exactly my motive behind the love for it. Fashion trends, to me, are almost predictions or visual representations of the future and the times. And I love that.

You ice cream lovers out there are going to love the happening sherbet colors for S/S:Doesn't it look delicious?
Also, hide the children!
Transparency and boobs on the runway are obviously apparent Spring '09.
Does this mean the economy gets so bad we can't afford suitable clothing anymore? People walking naked on the streets? I would hope not!
For non-visual reference, white (Shockingly, right? Pretty predictable.) and gray tones are two other mentionable colors for Spring.

Chains and Bows

Oh, how I am obsessed with chains and bows for Spring '09!Givenchy had some Alice in Wonderland-esque, adorable little headband bows in pink and black. Lacroix paired both sparkly chains with little bows cascading up and down their shoes. Vera Wang got crafty and used a bow to tie the back of her chained necklace. Prada also used bows on the back of her foot socks that were layered underneath her sky-high heels.Get creative with chains and use them as bag handles or bag accessories as styled at Dolce & Gabbana and Vera Wang, belts and necklaces as styled at Vera Wang and Marc Jacobs, or around your neck, wrist, or shoe as styled at Marc Jacobs, Gucci, and Rodarte. They also look great with bows as pictured at Lacroix, to give a tough yet feminine feel.

Orange you glad?

Orange is the new hot color for Spring 2009.

You can find it every which way!
Incorporate orange into your wardrobe come Spring with an all neutral outfit with pops of orange accessories, or with a maxi-long orange dress similar to Tory Burch or threeASFOUR. Fun, flirty, shorter dresses similar to Anna Sui or Issac Mizrahi are also a great option.

Walking tall

If you have looked at the Spring 2009 RTW collections recently, you've probably noticed all of the platforms. Yes, you probably know about how outrageously tall those Prada shoes were too. If you don't already know, one model went absolutely head-over-heels (literally) walking in them. Later the models wised up and took off the shoes themselves, holding them in their hands while they cat-walked. Dolce & Gabbana and D&G shoes were equally intimidating, but had wonderfully artistic details. Dior embraced the curvy woman with a sculpted women on the heel on a few of his shoes. Take a peek at some of the many platforms:Another trend you can find Spring 2009 are big honkin' bangles and bracelets, along with super tall wedges and lots of architectural shapes and interesting artistic angles in shoes.

Oh, the drama!

To kick off my blog, "Miss Diorable", lets talk Project Runway!
After just watching episode 12, this has got to be the most intense episode in the history of PR. Of course, we are down to four designers so that's dramatic in itself, but the high school-esque rivalries and cliques make it even better! Ricky Lizalde doesn't even match up to the fountains of tears shed this episode.
Making a couture dress in just a few days is as expected considering the typical outrageous challenges of PR. We all know it is almost impossible and ridiculous, but it makes for good T.V. ... right?
Speaking of "making good T.V.", seems like the judges pulled that Bryant Park trick they did last season. Personally, I am kind of glad they did so... even though they are running it a bit dry. This season has been my favorite season by far, I feel so attached to all the designers. All their unique aesthetics make me so curious for next episode!
